- The Annals of the Joseon Dynasty, a vital historical record of Korea, were relocated to safe locations during times of war or disaster.
This process, called “I-an (Relocation for Safety)”, involved solemn processions of officials, soldiers, and citizens.
It was an expression of the people’s unwavering determination to protect the nation's spirit and historical roots.
Poswae (Sun-Drying Ritual)

- This traditional ritual involved sun-drying the annals to inspect their preservation status.
It was conducted regularly to prevent moisture and insect damage.
The sight of books opened wide under the wind and sunlight reflects the meticulous care and wisdom dedicated to preserving the historical records.
Bongan (Enshrinement Ceremony) : After the relocation and sun-drying, the annals were respectfully returned to their original place in a process called Bongan (Enshrinement Ceremony).
This was not merely storage—it was a solemn ritual to preserve and pass down the legitimacy and history of the Joseon Dynasty. The ceremony symbolized the enshrinement of the nation's spirit.
